After you have received the apostille for the certificate of marriage approval, translate it as well as the official copy of the family registry of the Japanese part, as couple you must go to the embassy or consulate of the foreigner part home country. There you will also receive a marriage certificate. Whether you receive it the same day or some days later, it will depend of the embassy. If you clear step 2, Congratulations! You are now married in the home country of the foreigner part.

Once you have the accurate translation of the documents, you must present them and the originals with the marriage registration, a form that people who are getting marry must fill, have to be presented to city hall where you reside in. Then, after your papers are checked, you will receive a Certificate of Marriage Approval. If you clear up to this stage, Congratulations! You have just married in Japan. However, your job has not finished yet.

Although you have attached the apostille to your birth certificate and you have obtained the certificate of the legal capacity to contract marriage, this doesn’t mean that the authorities of the city hall where you are plaining to get marry are able to read the information on them. Therefore, a translation is needed.
